On the road at 0630 to beat the crazies commuting into Chattanooga. Another spectacular morning with the temperature at 57. Quite a contrast to the twisting, climbing, dropping roads of the past four days. It was predominantly 4 lane roads between Ooltewah and The Natchez Trace Parkway. But every once in awhile you'd hit a stretch of down home roads which took you through quiet little towns like Cowan, TN. Note that I'm now over 1000 miles.

I had a cup of coffee and talked with some of the town folk; the two ladies who ran the filling station and a gent by the name of Jody who was born in Cowan but had wound up in the Seattle area for 12 years. He'd come back a year ago for his dad's funeral and decided to stay. Nissan has a plant down the road about 5 miles. I wonder what thought and decision making processes led Nissan to select the Cowan area.

188 miles later I was on The Trace as everyone around here calls it. Now I know what The Department of the Interior does with the money they don't spend on the BRP. The Trace is in the same outstanding condition as is the BRP. The road surface is even better probably because they don't get lots of hard freezing and snow. It is fairly level and wanders through fields and woods. By noon the temperature was up to 92 and when I stopped at 1:30 it was 95.

Oh yea, Marty McFly and Doc's souped up Delorean don't have anything on the Snowfo and Big Blue. I to went back in time. I didn't expect a new time zone until I got closer to the Mississssssssspppppi River. But, just west of Chattanooga, it changes.
